The following pictures are of an operation-oriented model railroad based on prototype operations of 1968 in the Susquehanna River Valley in central Pennsylvania. At this time the railroads that operated in that area at that time were the Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley, Delaware & Hudson, New York Central, Erie Lackawanna, and the Reading. Roger Pugh (deceased) the owner, and his friend Don Clerke (deceased) purposefully designed the railroad in Rogers new condo’s basement with operations in mind. This was done in 1985. In 1986 construction began with a group of area modelers and close friends of Roger, including Robert Richardson, Jim Reddington, Tom Carver, John Reed, Ted Bossert (deceased), Rick McQuat, and Jim Bruneauu. The First operating session was in 1992. Since the mainline was short and the point of emphasis was on switching, with all trains originating and eventually terminating in staging yards. There was enough hidden staging for 24 trains of 25 cars each. The main yard, Sunbury, was large enough to handle about ten trains’ worth of cars going in and out. Four other areas of intense switching that were fed by the yard: Jay Street, Pugh Plastics, Buttonwood Yard, and Reidsburg. Operations occurred about six times per month and on holidays, with two different crews and a special third crew for the holidays. Sessions were two hours long except for the holiday sessions, which could be all day or night long. The layout was featured in the June 1997 Railroad Model Craftsmen.
